Baozi 包子: round, fully enclosed Chinese filled buns—not folded gua bao pockets.

About the project

A field guide for the whole baozi

Baozi Atlas is an independent English-language project about round, enclosed Chinese filled buns: how dough, filling, shaping and steam work together.

The internet does not need another recipe that hides uncertainty behind a perfect photograph.

01

Show the state

We describe what dough, filling and shaped buns look and feel like, alongside any useful timing.

02

Record the batch

Flour, temperature, filling weight, steamer setup and failures belong in the working notes.

03

Name the food

We use specific Chinese names, explain them in English and avoid treating every steamed bun as the same object.

04

Publish the status

A research draft, a single test and a repeated kitchen result are three different kinds of evidence.

Editorial boundary

Independent, unofficial and still at the workbench.

Baozi Atlas is not affiliated with a restaurant, appliance company, flour brand or government body. The food images are AI-generated editorial references, clearly labeled in their captions. They do not document a cooking test or prove a recipe result. The provisional formula is not claimed to be authentic, definitive or foolproof.

Regional voices and primary sources will be named when cultural or historical pages are developed. The project will not turn one household method into a universal rule.

What the site needs next

A public author name, a monitored contact address, documented cooking tests, original batch photography and careful review of every displayed quantity. Until then, all cooking pages remain visibly provisional.
